Windows adalah bahasa Inggris yang artinya dalam bahasa indonesia adalah jendela-jendela, namun jika dikaitkan dengan istilah komputer pengertian windows bisa menjadi lain. Windows adalah sebuah sistem operasi yang dikeluarkan oleh sebuah perusahaan Amerika yang bernama Microsoft. Sistem operasi adalah sistem dasar untuk mengoperasikan sebuah alat elektronik. (Sebagai gambaran lain, dalam istilah handphone kita mengenal adanya sistem operasi bernama bernama symbian.)
Karena merupakan sistem dasar, kita bisa menambahkan program-program atau aplikasi lain untuk melengkapi sistem operasi. Misalnya, untuk membantu proses tulis-menulis orang menambahkan program Microsoft Word / Excell, dan untuk membantu proses editing suatu foto, orang memasang program Adobe Photoshop.
Sistem operasi lain yang juga cukup populer selain Windows adalah Linux dan Mac OS. Jika Windows dan Mac OS merupakan sistem operasi berbayar, maka Linux adalah sebuah sistem operasi yang gratis. Tetapi, mungkin karena “menang tua” windows lebih banyak digunakan orang daripada Linux. Sehingga jika kita mengadakan suatu survei, mungkin pengertian windows lebih banyak diketahui daripada pengertian Linux.

BBM BlackBerry Launches Music Service
